Masterclass for 20th-century music

Hommage à Julien François Zbinden
Concert final des participants à la masterclass for 20th-century music

There are many links between Lausanne Cathedral and the composer Julien-François Zbinden (1917-2021). For the 700th anniversary of the cathedral, Zbinden composed a vast fresco entitled ‘La Pierre et l’Esprit’ in 1970. In 1993, he composed ‘Cathédrale’, a suite for organ dedicated to Jean-Christophe Geiser. On his 100th birthday, Julien-François Zbinden attended a concert in his honour at Lausanne Cathedral.

In the year of the cathedral’s 750th anniversary, a master class organised by LOC.

ARTIUM will be given by composer Richard Dubugnon, Jean-Christophe Geiser and Christoph Sturzenegger from 21 to 24 July. It will be devoted to the works of Julien-François Zbinden for solo organ and for brass and organ, and more broadly to twentieth-century music for organ and brass.
