Stéphane Mottoul
Stéphane Mottoul studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he worked with teachers such as Ludger Lohmann (organ), Pierre Pincemaille, Thierry Escaich and László Fassang (improvisation), as well as Jean-François Zygel and Yves Henry. He completed his training with a Master’s degree in church music at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg im Breisgau and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists (United Kingdom).

Alongside his career as an organist, Stéphane Mottoul is also dedicated to conducting, studying at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) with Iwan Wassilievski, in Munich with Hansjörg Albrecht, and in Belgium under the guidance of Guy van Waas.

Recognized for his imaginative use of registrations and his refined technique (Music Web International, 2018), he has won several international competitions. He performs in Europe and North America as a soloist, chamber musician and with orchestras. His repertoire, vast and eclectic, ranges from early Baroque to the 21st century, and he explores the organ in all its forms: improvisation for silent films, works with orchestra (Sturm und Klang, Century 21st, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester), on both historical and contemporary instruments.

In 2017, he recorded his first album for the Aeolus label, devoted to the complete organ works of Maurice Duruflé, which was acclaimed by international critics.

In October 2020, Stéphane Mottoul was appointed Hof und Stiftsorganist at the Hofkirche of Lucerne, where he highlights the monumental organ of the church.
